Another Way To Send Private Email
Show your support:
Sometimes I fail to see the simple solution. While I've been writing about using GPG to encrypt your email, and the
federales are screaming that the terrorists will use it, the terrorist suspects came up with
something simpler:
The men would write emails and save them in the "drafts" folder of an email account they could both access. They could both log on, access messages and write new ones without having to send an email.
"This mode of communication enabled them to pass on messages without fear of interception by the FBI," the report said.
So, you sign up for a free webmail account. You share the user name and password with an associate. Then, both of you can log into the one account. You write messages to each other in the Drafts folder. And since those messages are never sent as email, all of the feds' email-snooping gadgetry is bypassed. (You'll want to use a webmail account that allows secure access. They can still snoop your web browsing.)
I don't know if these guys were too unsophisticated to use encryption, or just didn't trust it. (I suspect the former.) But, damn! Is it that easy to get around the NSA?
