Things that really bother me about Paul....

A blog reader follows up on my SlapRonPaul post. He writes,
Here are some things that really bother me about Paul.... NOTE: I have edited down the email's content but otherwise changed no wording. I hope to find enough time to address in greater detail than in earlier posts the two issues that disturb me the most about Ron Paul: his willingness to collapse the separation of Church and States, and his pro-life politics.
*Ron Paul's stance on immigration endears him to White Nationalists and "White Pride" activists (click here and here), with whom he may or may not agree with in more ways than one (click here). NOTE: Personally I do not fault Paul for who does or does not applaud his ideas; that is out of his control. I fault him for the ideas themselves...and his stand on immigration is atrocious. It is not surprising to me that white supremacists hold identical views as Paul but I know that many concerned non-racist Americans hold those views as well. Nevertheless, in my experience, racism and xenophobia are common themes running just beneath the surface of those who oppose opening the border. A litmus test I've found useful: if you explain that the real problem are the tax-funded benefits that are extended to immigrants (legal and not) and advocate shifting focus toward eliminating those benefits, then a non-racist generally softens or (at least partially) reconsiders his or her stand.
*You mentioned the border wall, endorsed by Paul, will be built using Eminent Domain, thereby contradicting one of his own platform planks, but the same border wall, will be utilizing a high-tech surveillance grid. Michael Chertoff himself has said this was a costly boondoggle.
*Ron Paul has written some disturbing stuff in some of his columns. In this one, he intimates gays are a "social problem."
*Ron Paul was not antiwar. He was all for war in both Iraq and Kosovo,so long as there was a declaration of war.Something he tried to introduce into Congress himself.
*Ron Paul tightened restrictions on student visas,in the name of "protecting our border
*Ron Paul did not vote on the FISA/wiretap bill. (Fifth name from the bottom.) Now,isn't that odd. Some might say hypocritical. No wonder he hasn't spoken up specifically about this legislation.
*In his YouTube "You choose 2008" video on health care,he says he doesn't want to cut the deficit, and intimates he agrees with Bush on health care.
I find if very disturbing, that so many libertarians, have fallen under Paul's spell. Otherwise rational people, who are usually have the same reaction to the state, politicians, and electioneering, that a vampire would to a garlic crucifix. While I was not politically aware enough at the time,I can now understand what Rothbard ran into when tried to warn libertarians about Reagan.I'm sure you saw the column that ran most of this past week,at LRC,where they admitted their open electioneering for Ron Paul, was putting the tax-exempt status of the CLS in jeapordy. Now that' s what I call disturbing. What would Murray say? I think Murray would be appalled.
